During symposium 1 day tour for accompanying people: La Rioja
An optional one-day tour to La Rioja will be offered on 07 June (Tuesday) for accompanying people.
La Rioja deserves to be visited for its excellent wines and for its historical heritage. Located at the southern end of the territory, and linked to the Ebro River, it offers different landscapes, of walled towns and cellars, where such precious wine is produced. La Rioja has become a world-renowned tourist destination. In addition to wineries, it offers numerous attractions that the region surprises its visitors with, such as landscapes of endless vineyards, medieval villages and a traditional gastronomy that leaves no one indifferent.
We will start our trip by visiting Laguardia: Declared as one of the most beautiful villages in Spain. We will spot the home of Mr. Félix María Samaniego, Casa Garcetas, and all other significant buildings – only outside visit. Within our route, we will access the Abacial Tower of the 12th century, from where we will be able to admire the impressive views of the Rioja Valley and Laguardia. We will have the possibility to enter the Church of Santa María de los Reyes, with its spectacular polychromed portico. Next, we will enjoy a private tour at an underground cellar. It is located under the Palace of the Samaniegos, where Félix María de Samaniego was inspired to write his great literary works and today hosts the tourist office of the town. The winery is conditioned for visits and produces its wines in a traditional way, for the pleasure of its visitors. The visit consists of a tour of its facilities, as well as the tasting of two wines.
The price* will include: round trip bus + guided tour + visit to winery + lunch.
Post-symposium 1 day tour: San Sebastián + Chillida Leku
We offer an optional post-conference excursion on 11 June (Saturday) for symposium attendees and their accompanying persons. It will be a one-day trip to San Sebastián (one of the three Basque capitals) that will include a visit to the Chillida Leku Museum.
Few cities have as many clichés as Donostia – San Sebastian, and this is the reason why it has received lovely nicknames, all of them aiming to underline its attractiveness. We will begin our visit at the Monte Igueldo which we will access by road, in order to delight ourselves with a spectacular view of the city (Santa Clara, Monte Ulía and Bay of La Concha).
Then we reach the heart of the city – the old town, which corresponds to the original city, and which is located between the port, the River Urumea and the Urgull mount. Here we will find, among others, three buildings that deserve to be highlighted: St. Vincent church, San Telmo Museum and the former convent command. We will also visit the Bretxa market, with its fish market, and its recently overhauled Plaza de la Constitución.
This visit may be enriched with a visit of the San Telmo Museum. The San Telmo Museum, inaugurated in 1902, is the oldest museum of the Basque Country. Most of its funds have its origins in the Basque society; therefore, the San Telmo Museum has been recently renewed and became a museum dedicated to Basque society and citizenship. It is quite unique because it is the only museum in the area focused on the Basque Society perspective, as well as being the only one in San Sebastián counting with a Fine Arts area.
Chillida Leku Museum (20 min drive from San Sebastian): Chillida Leku is a unique museum, a great work of art itself. The fusion between art and nature takes place in this museum in a natural way. Sculptures are integrated with the land-scape as if they had always been a part of it. In the garden, the beech trees, the oaks and the magnolias coexist with the monumental sculptures of steel and granite, in a perfectly balanced dialogue with the surroundings.
The price* will include: round trip bus + guided tour + visit to San Telmo Museum + Chillida Leku + lunch
*We will inform you soon about the prices, deadlines, registration form and payments for the optional excursions.
